First, look at your temperature gauge on the dashboard. If it’s in the red zone or if you see warning lights, pull over safely as soon as you can.
Once parked, turn off the engine and let it cool down for at least 15 minutes. Never open the hood right away, as steam can escape and cause burns. After it cools, check the coolant level in the reservoir. If it’s low, you may need to add coolant or water, but only when the engine is cool.
If the engine continues to overheat after adding coolant or if you notice leaks, it's best to call for roadside assistance. Driving an overheated car can cause serious damage, so taking quick action can save you from costly repairs later on!
